CONSULTATIONS

What Can I Expect?

Your Initial Consultation

  • Your initial appointment usually lasts for 1-1.5 hours and will involve a detailed discussion of your child's (and your family’s) health history, diet and lifestyle with the aim of understanding symptoms, potential triggers, treatment goals, and review of any prior diagnostic testing and/or therapies.

  • A basic health and development check (including height, weight, nail/skin analysis, hypermobility) will also be carried out.

  • Your child only needs to be present for the initial 10-15mins of the appointment. There are plenty of toys, games and colouring pens to keep them occupied. If you know of an activity that your child prefers, please bring these along with you.

  • An individualised Nutritional Medicine report will then be developed including diet and lifestyle advice. Where needed, this will include therapeutic supplemental support. This will be sent shortly after your initial consultation.

What happens next?

  • To deliver a tailored treatment plan, valid biomedical testing may be suggested following your consultation. Example tests include comprehensive stool analysis, blood hematology, biochemistry and vitamin/mineral screens, food allergy, organic acids, pyroluria, methylation index, oxidative stress, neurotransmitters and hormone panels. Katy regularly works alongside GP’s, paediatricians and other medical and/or complimentary specialists to ensure that her patients achieve an integrated treatment pathway and optimum outcome.

  • Laboratory test kits will either be ordered directly to your home to be carried out (with instructions), or sometimes it is required for you to attend in person for testing. If a blood test is required, for example, we will advise of available phlebotomy services.

  • A summary of dietary and/or supplement recommendations, and diagnostic tests required will be sent by email following your initial appointment.

  • Test results usually take 10 days- 3 weeks to be turned around. Your follow up appointment will therefore be 4-6weeks after your initial appointment, and will usually last 1 hr. A test interpretation report with recommendations will then be sent by email at the time of the follow up consultation.

Ongoing Review

Implementing and adjusting to your health plan can take time, and Katy is there to offer ongoing support and guidance. It is also critical that your Nutritional Medicine programme, including any dietary and supplement regime, is regularly reviewed.

Follow up consultations will be every 6 weeks to 3months and will range from 30-60 minutes, depending on complexity or time required. Your programme will then be revised following each consultation.
